Why Baby Boomers Love Barge Cruise Vacations

Is there anything better than planning out a fun vacation once you have hit retirement age? For many people, this is something that they dream about! There are many reasons why baby boomers love a barge tour in France on board the Barge Meanderer. Today, we are going to talk about those reasons, which you may not have even realized were available to you!

Reason 1: The Scenic Views
When traveling aboard the Barge Meanderer, there are two routes that we take; the Northern Route and the Southern Route.

The Northern Route takes us from Montargis on the Canal du Loing to Samois-sur-Seine which is where the home of the revered guitarist Django Rheinhardt lived. You will also visit such places at St. Mammés, which is a busy port where you will be able to walk, bike or relax while the crew pampers you.

The Southern Route is an exceptionally scenic cruise route that sails between Montbouy and Léré. During one of our French barge cruises, the Barge Meanderer offers scenic views of the Upper Loire. You will also have the ability to visit scenic towns with rich history, glorious architecture, daily markets in town, museums, and antique shops.

All of this is done at a leisurely pace with a relaxed manner. You will see an unforgettable countryside and have an amazing experience.

Reason 2: Accommodations
What was originally a 1948 Belgian “spitz” commercial barge was transformed in 1992 into a French luxury hotel barge! While traveling the Upper Loire in style, you will accessibility to one of three en-suite cabins, a teak covered sun deck, outdoor heated spa-pool and a crew that is here to pamper and take care of you the whole time you are on board!

  • Staterooms: The staterooms on the Barge Meanderer are air-conditioned and measure in excess of 125 feet. There is a flexible bed option between a twin or queen bed which gives you the versatility needed for you and your party. The cabins are also newly decorated which help brighten the day but also blackout the sun to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep.
  • Shower: There are many elegant touches to your private bathroom, which is completed by a beautiful, tiled shower. Redecorated for a lovely and modern feel for all baby boomers to enjoy.
  • Salon: Whether you’re planning your next excursion or recounting the event that just happened, the salon is the best place to do so. Newly decorated, it offers comfortable seating to enjoy a nice glass of wine between meals or just to sit and relax.
  • Sun Deck: Our teak-covered sun deck is the perfect place to lounge or dine. There is a heated spa-pool that you can take in the ever-changing views of the Upper Loire while the crew is there to pamper you and meet your every need.

Reason 3: Gourmet Dining
The ability to dine on board with freshly picked food each day is another reason that Baby Boomers love barge tours of France. The Barge Meanderer owners, Susan and George Kovalick, had their own upscale restaurant which garnered consistently great reviews. They have applied that knowledge to the kitchen and staff here to recreate the same experience on board.

You can dine al fresco under the canopy or in the salon. Both are great experiences. The meals on board are prepared with only the freshest ingredients, which are picked up daily at the local town market. Menus can be adjusted to meet the dietary restrictions that you may have. Also, the menu is tailored to meet the likes of you!

The chef also brings their wine knowledge on board to make sure that each meal is paired with the perfect wine. The chef also loves to cook for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries and the like so please let us know about any of these and you will receive something extra special.
